Chosen Blog: himynameisMARK

The blog that I have chosen to review is himynameisMARK. himynameisMARK is a blog by Mark Hoppus. Mark Hoppus is an artist and producer and also has a great interest in music technology. He is very experienced, and often utilises some music technology in his live performances. He is known best for playing bass in the American bands Blink 182 and +44, but has also produced for a number of bands including New Found Glory and Motion City Soundtrack. He is always striving to please his fans, and design, or come up with new devices.

Some of his posts include pictures from Blink 182's tour, remixes of songs, mash ups of songs, new music technology and interesting news in general. Most of his post would be of photos, or tour news, however, there are many video and technology posts. Some posts include ideas he's had for new equipment, and new equipment he's just acquired.

himynameisMARK's post's aren't the most frequent. He could go about a week without a post, and then have a few in the one day. looking back at his archived posts, I've discovered that the volume of his posts vary. Sometimes there could be posts every day for a few weeks, and then suddenly no posts for a week. I have received 12 posts from himynameisMARK. This was many more posts than Music Technology | News, Multimedia Production and Computer Music Guide, I have received 5 posts in my google reader from Music Technology | News, Multimedia Production and Computer Music Guide. I received these posts every few days.

I would think the chosen audience would range from about 12 to 30 year old. IO think the desired audience would be Blink 182 fans, +44 fans, people interested in music technology and anyone looking for something interesting. The language used is quite simple. There wasn't anything that i wasn't able to understand, with the exception of a few new terms. The design of this blog was quite interesting. There were many embedded videos, pictures and links in some of the posts. To select archived posts, you clicked on the month of the post you wanted. There are many interesting graphics along the sides and on the header of the page. There is also an external Twitter embedded in the side of the page. There is a blog roll of all other similar blogs along the side of the page.

Chosen Post: the Octopus Ears

My favourite post from the blog himynameisMARK is called "the Octopus Ears". The post is about in ear monitors. these in ear monitors are quite good, and have octopus logo's on them. Mark talks about comparing them to his old in ear monitors. He also compares them to his studio headphones. Unfortunately I do not think that Mark posted the results of his comparisons.
